FAQ
How do you describe Bizaare Ave Cafe?
We have been described as being a “Soho” type of underground cafe. Our interior decor is a cross between an English country house and a trendy Nantucket Island eatery. You’ll find overstuffed chairs and comfy sofas arranged around coffee tables, all of which are for sale. In fact when you take a look around you will notice that everything in the restaurant is for sale…from the art on the walls to the plates that you’re eating on!
How did you come up with the name Bizaare Ave Cafe?
It’s just a play of words between a bazaar where you go to buy something and bizarre, out of the ordinary and unusual!
When did you open?
Bizaare Ave Café first opened in January 1997, housed in a building that was originally built in 1926 in downtown Lake Worth and renovated in 2005.
Did you create the concept of selling all of the items that are inside the restaurant?
Yes, before Bizaare was created this building housed a thrift store for 10 years. So when we first opened our doors as a Tapas Wine Bar / Thrift store fusion we actually used “second hand” furniture for customer seating. As we began to bring in odd tables, chairs, sofas and loveseats it took on the look of a homey living room which we are still well known for. Our customers started to request to buy such unique pieces, and so we began to bring in items for them to purchase and as a little reminder of their time with us here at Bizaare. We now, sadly just offer brand new items for sale as we could not keep up with the demand!
Is EVERYTHING in the restaurant for sale?
Well, yes we have pictures, artwork and novelty signs hanging on the walls, we have lamps, lanterns and knick knacks on the tables, together with bird houses, wind chimes and purses hanging from our ceilings. Our sofa’s, loveseats, chairs and tables are used and may be purchased as is, or we can order a new item within 2-3 business days. We have sold our plates and silverware too. Our restaurant in Jupiter was also sold this way!
Who personally chooses what will be offered for sale at the restaurant?
My wife, Keely now takes care of keeping up with the purchasing of items for retail. 99% is ordered from various wholesale companies all over America. We still like to pick up a unique piece now and again from local antique stores – as a conversational piece.
